Artist's Statement

My art is made of steel. My technique is brute force, decide-at-the-moment, direct metal sculpture. My material is found metal.

My creative process emerges with patterns. I incorporate patterns into all of my sculpture. Taking one piece of steel, adding to it, or deleting from it, then ending when the sculpture encompasses all of my creativity, this is what charges up my artistic energies. When my creative force is flowing, I work on a sculpture to completion. It is finished when the creative flow ends.

I have been an artist all my life. I am fascinated with engineering and architecture. The shapes of metal, its patterns, textures and grains; all entice me to create. My ability to cut and weld metal allows me to create any art I desire.

My aspiration is to create sculpture that is different and unique, that no one has done before. I resist conformity and mass production. My art is as individual as I am.

Please enjoy all that you see.

Jeff Owen

News (BLOG), and Associations

= HOT

Coming Soon - Come see me at the Los Gatos Fiesta de Arts on August 16th and 17th 2008

The Los Altos Arts and Wine Festival was great. The weather was perfect and the crouds were fun. If you get a chance to get to Los Altos, it is a very nice city with a ton of great stores.

NOW - GOT ART? Come see some of my work at the Got Art? Gallery in Downtown Los Gatos,CA. Prime location in the heart of Los Gatos, formerly the Linda Durnell gallery. I have a lot of work in the gallery and I rotate it in and out. What a great place to be. A real gallery in the heart of the Town. Thank you David and Larry for this great space.

May 2008 - Saratoga Rotary Art Show. The Saratoga Rotary Art Show is the largest one-day art show in the western United States. The show will be on Sunday, May 4th. Location: West Valley Community College, Saratoga, California. What a fantastic event. My sculptures sold before the show opened!

February 2008 - Show at the SOLO Gallery in Los Gatos, CA.

Coming October 2008 - I have been asked to do another one artist show at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company during the month of October 2008.

2007 / 2008 - I've had a one artist show at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company during the month of January in 2008. This is my first solo show.

2007 - My sculpture has been compared to the sculpture of David Smith. I discovered David Smith while at a Burlington, Vermont used book store. I spotted a book in the art section called "The Fields of David Smith". The moment after I opend that book, I felt a genuine kinship with David. His sculpture is my sculpture and my sculpture is his sculpture. David Smith died young and I deeply regret that I never met him. One of my clients told me that I was his reincarnation. I like that.

2007 - I may have some of my sculpture at a winery in Murphys, CA. Vina Mode Winery (the only actual working winery in Murphys, CA) might put some of my sculpture on their winery grounds. We're working out the details.

2007 / 2008 - I will have a one artist show at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company during the month of January in 2008. This is my first solo show.

I WON! I received an award for my sculpture "Roadside Attractions" at the Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council 39th Annual NATIONAL Juried Exhibition. With 800 people in the audience, I stood up and took a bow and accepted applause. How can you beat this!

2007 - Traveling to Palm Springs Museum of Art for the artists reception on the 5th of November 2007. Awards will be presented in the Annenberg Theatre, at the Museum.

2007 - My sculptures "Smoke" and "Twister" are on display at the City of Santa Clara City Hall - "All Fired Up" Sculpture Exhibition through February 2008. Stop by City Hall and take a look at some great sculpture. There are 80 pieces on display - eye candy. 8-5, Monday-Friday, Santa Clara City Hall.

2007 - My sculpture "Winter" was accepted into the Los Gatos Art Association (LGAA) Member Juried Show 2007. It will be on display with 80+ other pieces by talented artists at the Art Museum of Los Gatos, 4 Tait Ave, Los Gatos. The show runs from October 28th through November 30th. Winter sold!

2007 - I have had a piece juried into the Palm Springs Art Museum's 39th Annual National Juried Exhibition. "Roadside Attractions". I am NATIONAL! Per the Palm Springs Art Museum web site, "Less than on in ten works was selected by the juror...". Thanks to Gary Paterson, Artists Council Coordinator, for the great news! The show runs from November 7th through December 23rd at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

2007 - Sept - I now have 3 of my sculptures installed in my Alleyway-Gallery. I hope you have a chance to get away one weekend and come up to the Sierra Foothills for some great art and some great fun. Pssst: There are 17 wineries with 17 wine tasting rooms on Main Street in Murphys.

2007 - September 30th I'll be on the Grounds of the Triton Museum as an invited artist during the 4th Annual Blues Bash. Come and see between 25 and 35 selected artists bringing their best to you. Here is the link to the Triton

2007-Sept 13 - I am in the Newspaper!!!

2007 - I was accepted to the " Redwood City - Art on the Square" event this year in downtown Redwood City , CA . If you are in Redwood City on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd, I had a double-booth at the event. This event is a bit intimate in that it is not as well know as many of the other events in the bay area, but it really deserves our attention because it is at our home.

2007 - I now have art gallery space in Murphys, CA. I call it my Alleyway-Gallery and it is located at 432 Main Street, Murphys, CA. This beautiful gold country town is an art lovers paradise. There are galleries and hand made wares of all types. Weekends are the best time to visit Murphys. I'll be "installing" 3 pieces in mid-September into my Alleyway-Gallery. I encourage you to come up to Murphys and spend the day enjoying fine art, fine wine (17 wine tasting rooms!) and fine food in this gem of a city.

2007 - Had a GREAT time at the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts - This was a really great show this year-- you MUST go next year, whether I am there or not! There was an article about me in the Festival paper.

Here is the text of that article: "Speaking of turning something old into something new, San Jose artist Jeff Owen will also be at the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts. He uses recycled materials to create his bold sculptures, using mostly found metal in his art he twists and bends and shapes metals of all different textures. He has had a lifelong interest in engineering and architecture and it shows in his work. His talent for cutting and welding enables him to follow his imagination until the sculpture is complete. By using recycled materials, the finished product becomes something powerful in its beauty and thought provoking as well. Known for his unusual creations used indoor as well as out, this artist proves that even used metal deserves a second chance. That beauty can be found in almost anything. Take some time to meet this artist who shows us that beauty can be found where we least expect it."
